Is America becoming a police state?

First, we find out about the NSA and PRISM, taking and storing all of our phone calls, emails, social media, locations, etc.

And just today it was announced the FBI has been using drones to “conduct surveillance” on American soil, without any policies or regulations on how/why/why they’re used.

Some citizens seem to be okay with this, saying that we need to give up certain freedoms in order to stay safe. However, some citizens are against this, saying the FBI has gone too far and that our rights as Americans are becoming more of a privilege.

What do you think?

  1. It is true that we need to give up some freedoms in order to ensure order and safety…but I think that the latest revelations are examples of it going too far…

Why is this surveillance happening? We let it happen. by electing officials who promoted a war on terror. We loved the patriot act. We loved subsequent legislation that surrendered our freedoms in the name of safety, in the name of fear. FEAR is why we have these policies. Fear of muslims and other who are different from us. This xenophobic mentality that captured us post 9/11 is why we have come to the state we are in now.

  2. I think it’s downright disgusting to be honest. I have felt that we were becoming a police state for a few years now, so I can’t say I’m surprised by any of this. The more I learn the more cynical I become, but I’ll keep doing what I can to make a difference in the world.
